The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board approved a timeline for selecting a permanent superintendent and acted in executive session on pending litigation matters during its Oct. 13 meeting.
On the superintendent search, the board approved Timeline Option 2: advertise Nov. 2 and Nov. 9; application deadline Nov. 18; retrieve applications Nov. 22; first-round interviews Dec. 5–6; name finalists Dec. 8; second-round interviews Dec. 12–13; name superintendent Dec. 15. The motion to approve Option 2 was made by Debra Schum, seconded by Triche, and passed 6 yeas, 4 nays, 1 absent. A substitute motion to refer the timeline to the Executive Committee for recommendation did not receive a second and therefore failed.
Earlier in the meeting the board convened in executive session to discuss prospective litigation related to Osa Betts Workers’ Compensation Claim #LCA-0023885. The board entered executive session at 7:36 p.m. and reconvened at 7:59 p.m. Upon reconvening, the board voted to give settlement authority to the third-party administrator LOCA for the claim. Motions to enter executive session, reconvene and to grant settlement authority were carried by roll call as recorded in the minutes.
The board directed staff to follow the adopted timeline for the superintendent search and to implement any directives resulting from the executive-session decision in accordance with applicable confidentiality and legal requirements.
