Board reviews LEAP 2025 results and School Performance Scores; district shows growth in multiple indices

District assessment and accountability staff presented a detailed review of LEAP 2025-based School Performance Scores (SPS) and district trends during the Dec. 7 board meeting.
Director of Data Management Claude Hill Jr., Assistant Superintendent Dr. Juanita Hill and Supervisor of Data and Reporting Shannon Smith-Magee walked the board through SPS components — Assessment Index, Progress Index, Dropout/Credit Accumulation Index (DCAI), Interests & Opportunities, Cohort Graduation Index, Strength of Diploma and the ACT/WorkKeys index — and how point scales determine component contributions to a school’s SPS.
Slides showed the district’s K–8 and high school progress and assessment indices improved year over year in 2022–23, with specific gains noted in the ACT/WorkKeys index. Presenters also explained criteria for Comprehensive Intervention Required and Urgent Intervention Required (UIR) designations and identified which schools and student groups remain in UIR or are on track to exit. The presentation highlighted that several schools posted growth across multiple indices and that 9 of 10 schools increased their School Performance Score.
The district named Lake Pontchartrain Elementary and West St. John Elementary as LEAP 2025 Top Gains honorees (progress index 90 or higher and not in UIR). Presenters also outlined district practices to support improvement, including curriculum staff support, focused walkthroughs, professional development, tutoring and an ACT intensive training series.
The board received the accountability update; staff outlined next steps for continued monitoring and support for schools on intervention lists.
