Council preliminarily supports DDA map expansion and sets public hearing on alley abandonment

Jim Welborn told the council that the Downtown Development Authority has voted to extend its boundary map and that, if the council concurs, City Manager Mark Musselwhite will file the necessary paperwork with the Georgia Secretary of State.
The council also discussed a request from the Carlson family to abandon an unopened alley at the end of Walnut Avenue and Ohio Street (parcel 076 048). Staff presented a draft resolution authorizing the city to initiate the formal abandonment process, and the mayor and council made a preliminary determination that abandonment is warranted. The council directed the city attorney or appropriate official to notify adjacent property owners as required by Georgia law and scheduled final action for the May 5 public meeting.
No final votes were taken during the work session; these land‑use and boundary matters will return to a public meeting for formal action.
