Demorest officials agree to new health and benefits carriers after Aetna exit

Demorest City Manager Mark Musselwhite told the Demorest City Council that Aetna stopped covering the city effective Jan. 1, 2025 and recommended a set of replacement carriers. "Aetna is no longer covering us effective January 1, 2025," Musselwhite said, and he urged the council to adopt Level Health Gold for health insurance, Lincoln for life, short- and long-term disability, dental and vision, and Apex Insurance Agency for workers' compensation.
The council discussed the options at length and reached agreement to contract with the recommended carriers. Musselwhite said the proposed package replaces the prior Aetna coverage and bundles vision, dental and disability through Lincoln while Apex would administer workers' compensation.
