At its June 1 regular meeting, the Deep River Board of Fire Commissioners was told the fire department's proposed 2026-2027 budget has been cut by about $17,000 from the current fiscal year, and that a requested part-time administrative assistant position was not placed in the proposed budget.
Chief Tim Lee said the latest draft of the department's budget is roughly $17,000 below the 2025-2026 level and that the Board of Finance observed the new firehouse will not create operating costs in 2026-2027. Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Adam Kerop presented the department's financial statement and warned the communications and vehicle maintenance budget lines may exceed their allocations if current spending continues.
The board discussed remaining line items and options for addressing potential overages. Chairman David Berardis said he prepared a formal letter to the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance requesting that a part-time administrative assistant position be included, but that the position was not placed in the current proposed budget.
No formal budget vote was taken at the meeting. The board recorded routine approvals of meeting minutes and then adjourned; members identified follow-up actions including further discussion with town finance officials about line-item priorities and potential adjustments before finalization of the town budget.
The board adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
