Deep River committee records architect contract execution, narrows firehouse design and site options

TSKP reviewed plans from previous projects for applicability to Deep River and told the committee that final building size depends on the apparatus bay requirements. The architect proposed reducing the net program by roughly 1,500 square feet and estimated an apparatus bay of about 5,500 square feet. Committee notes from the meeting list considerations for exterior versus internal storage, gear storage racks, placement of shower facilities, the possibility that a dedicated locker room may not be necessary, and the need for a small conference room and shared office space.
Committee members discussed alternative sites. The grass area adjacent to the Historical Society was determined not to be a viable option. The committee is continuing conversations about property located behind the current site; Ted Fremut has expressed interest in further discussions. Devitt Field was suggested as a potential site, and the Deep River Market property was noted to be for sale. Alan Paradis said he will follow up with the realtor and the committee discussed obtaining appraisals for potential sites.
Chairperson Zachary Machold also circulated drafts of response letters to firms that were not selected for the project and will distribute them to the committee for review before sending. The Board of Finance reported favorable burn rates and indicated the ability to reduce the project budget; the committee discussed current burn rates and budget implications but did not record specific budget decisions at this meeting.
Next steps recorded by the committee include clarifying final apparatus requirements to fix overall building size, pursuing appraisals for potential sites, and following up with the realtor for the Deep River Market property.
