Parks & Recreation Director Shawn Mullen brought forward a proposal discussed by the Parks advisory board to install a gate at the town boat launch controlled by RFID key fobs distributed with boat licenses. Mr. Mullen said advisory-board members are not opposed to the idea and that the gate would be paired with resident guidelines to increase public education about what can enter the lake.
The commission discussed an estimated installation cost of about $18,000. Members suggested appointing one representative from each commission to draft a proposal; the draft is to be presented for a commission vote in July and then submitted to the Town Council for consideration at its July meeting.
Members also noted that new light buoys will be placed in the lake next week. No formal vote on the gate was taken at the May 14 meeting; the next procedural step is drafting and reviewing the proposal before council consideration.
