Bolton PZC considers clarifying poultry rules and removing overlapping waterfront standard

Patrice Carson asked the commission to clarify whether Bolton’s zoning language that currently uses the term “poultry” should explicitly include or exclude ducks. Carson noted that the dictionary definition of poultry includes ducks, but commissioners said prior sentiment had not favored allowing ducks, so the commission will consider a text amendment to make the rule explicit.
Commissioners also discussed Zoning Regulation 450-3.7, which governs structures within 50 feet of a water resource. Members observed that this provision overlaps with the jurisdiction of the Inland Wetlands Commission and questioned whether the duplication is necessary given the wetlands commission’s expertise. The commission asked staff to review the regulation and consider removing or revising 450-3.7 to reduce redundancy.
No final text amendments were adopted at the Feb. 11 meeting; staff will return with draft language for future consideration.
