Interim Town Manager Michelle Leary told the Select Board that the contractor for the Bancroft Tennis Courts, RAD, accepted responsibility for surface paint failures after a sudden cold snap prevented the paint from curing properly.
Leary said RAD inspected the courts on March 13, repainted them temporarily so they can be used this season, and agreed to a plan to fully resurface the courts after the season. The full resurfacing will require closing the courts for approximately 72 hours to allow materials to cure. RAD is offering an additional five-year warranty on the court paint and will perform annual spring inspections for five years; the transcript noted the 25-year warranty will begin only when the town signs off on completion.
Chair Ellen Maher and the board thanked Leary for promptly addressing the issue and discussed options for ongoing oversight, such as regular inspections by the tennis coach, athletic director or facilities manager. Leary emphasized this is a surfacing issue, not a structural problem, and that warranty start dates depend on the town’s acceptance of completion.
The board took no further formal action beyond accepting the contractor’s responsibility and documenting the plan for temporary use and full resurfacing after the season.
