Dennis advisory committee approves Accessibility Guide and reallocates funds to Transition Plan

The Advisory Committee on Disabilities voted April 6 to spend $6,750 to produce an initial Accessibility Guide and to reallocate previously earmarked Shoop Garden funds to offset items in the town's Transition Plan.
Pat Hart and Grethe Kaeselau told the committee they had met with town staff to develop a first version of the guide: a 12-page document with approximately $6,000 in development costs and about $750 for printing. The motion to fund the guide passed 6–1; Sam Awad opposed the expenditure, expressing concern that the guide might be underused.
During the financial report the committee noted $14,334.99 remaining for FY2026 and identified allocated but unspent items including the Accessibility Guide ($6,000), beach wheelchair maintenance ($275) and a mobi-mat for Dr. Lord's Rd. ($1,000). Minutes state that funds previously allocated for Shoop Garden could not be spent before the fiscal year ended; the committee agreed to reallocate those funds to address Transition Plan costs and tasked Grethe Kaeselau with reviewing the Transition Plan and making funding recommendations at the committee's May 4 meeting. The vote to pursue that review was unanimous (7–0).
Gary Novitz moved to approve the March 9, 2026 meeting minutes at the start of the session; John Wenberg seconded and the committee approved the minutes unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 11:38 a.m. The committee's next meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Dennis Center for Active Living.
