Dover library director reports staff changes, summer reading plans and recent temporary closure
Summary
Library Director B. Klem told trustees the YA librarian departed, the summer reading program will begin at the end of June, and a drain clog prompted a temporary closure during which closing procedures were followed; a proposed restroom renovation did not make the FY27 capital request.
Library Director B. Klem presented the Director’s Report at the April 14, 2026 trustees meeting, updating the board on personnel, programs and facilities.
B. Klem reported the recent departure of the YA (young adult) librarian and noted the summer reading program is scheduled to kick off at the end of June for all age groups. She summarized takeaways from her attendance at the Public Library Association 2026 Conference.
The director described a recent drain clog that required the library to close temporarily; meeting minutes state that staff followed the library’s closing procedure on that day. B. Klem also said the Dover Mother’s Association approached the library with a proposed physical gift; she will consult Town Counsel to confirm whether the gift is acceptable before acceptance.
Trustees noted the Restroom Renovation Project did not make the FY27 capital budget requests to be presented at Town Meeting; the Board Chair and the BOS liaison will inquire about paths forward. No vote was taken to alter the capital request at this meeting.
