Conservation Commission continues Nelson Street wetlands hearing, orders erosion controls

The East Longmeadow Conservation Commission on April 8, 2026 continued a public hearing for NOI-2026-01, the application for a single-family home at 0 Nelson Street, after a site visit and the submission of new information two days before the meeting. Chair Elizabeth Stoughton opened the item and limited discussion at the meeting to site stabilization measures.
Mike Pietras attended for the applicant. Clerk Thomas O’Brien told the Commission that erosion controls at the top and bottom of the hill would likely be adequate for stabilization. The Commission requested that straw bales be placed along the top of the lot by the road and that straw bales and straw waddles be installed at the proposed retaining wall line. The panel set an installation deadline of April 15, 2026 for those controls.
After setting those stabilization requirements, Clerk Thomas O’Brien moved to continue the public hearing to April 22, 2026; Vice Chair Jason Gumpert seconded and the motion carried unanimously, five in favor, zero opposed, zero abstentions. Under other business the Commission noted Vice Chair Gumpert will not attend the April 22 meeting.
The applicant is expected to return on April 22 with documentation showing the required erosion controls in place and any additional materials related to the Notice of Intent.
