Brook Walter delivered the district’s accountability presentation, summarizing three years of data across ELA, math, science, graduation, acceleration and college‑and‑career readiness. "ELA proficiency is at an all‑time high for our district," Walter said, and district leaders emphasized that overall ELA and math proficiency and growth remain above state averages.
Walter noted variation across schools and highlighted that growth for the district’s lowest 25 percent of students remains an area for attention, while math proficiency for the district is at an all‑time high. The presentation also cited a nearly 14 percentage‑point gain for English Learners and an 88 percent third‑grade reading rate, both described as district highs.
The presenter cautioned that methodological changes affected some composite measures: the weight for Advanced Placement (AP) courses is no longer doubled, which lowered the acceleration component for some schools and the district relative to prior years.
District staff said school‑by‑school data are available for review and that the accountability scores use a rolling window that is one year behind (the 2023–24 accountability uses scores for the class of 2023). Board members asked questions about growth among the lowest performing students and next steps to support targeted improvement.
The presentation closed with recognition that assessment metrics simplify complex instruction but are necessary to measure progress and adjust interventions.
