District celebrates state champions, CTE high rankings and National Merit semifinalists

The Lamar County School Board opened its recognitions with awards for athletic teams, individual student honors and Career and Technical Education (CTE) achievements.
Assistant Superintendent for secondary programs Patrick led the recognitions, calling forward the Summerall High School girls soccer team to celebrate their 4A state championship and announcing Coach Todd Silers as the Mississippi Association of Coaches 2024 girls soccer Coach of the Year. Individual student awards included a Mississippi Gatorade player-of-the-year recognition for Addie Ciders and multiple all-state academic and athletic selections.
CTE Director Suzanne Kelly and school instructors described state and regional rankings: automotive service and other career-technical programs placed first in multiple state categories, and the district publicly thanked staff for securing a $70,000 grant to support CNC equipment and program expansion. FFA students were introduced and will represent the district at the national competition in Indianapolis in October.
The superintendent’s report noted seven National Merit semifinalists in the district (students in the top 2% on the PSAT), which the superintendent said is a point of pride for the district.
The board applauded the students, staff and coaches and encouraged continued community support for extracurricular and CTE programs.
