The Board of Education of the Lamar County School District approved a resolution declaring the necessity of borrowing up to $17 million to pay costs associated with acquiring, constructing, equipping and renovating school buildings and related facilities, and set the measure for the Nov. 5 general-election ballot.
Superintendent Dr. Pon explained the figure described in the resolution as a ceiling, saying the district will “borrow no more than what it takes to build” the projects in scope. The transcript lists intended projects as a high school, a middle school, an elementary school, an office building and a multipurpose facility.
Board members clarified that the question will appear on the Nov. 5 general-election ballot rather than as a standalone special election and that eligible district electors will be able to vote on the measure. The board moved, seconded and approved both the necessity resolution and a companion resolution to call the election.
The resolutions recorded in the meeting do not specify a resolution number in the transcript; the approved language sets a maximum borrowing amount of $17,000,000 and identifies the borrowing as a district-level bond question to be submitted to district electors.
