Lawrence County Commission approves routine funding, equipment purchases and board appointment

The Lawrence County Commission met in November and approved a series of routine consent and new-business items, including small event funding, several road and solid-waste purchases, a personnel grade addition and a library board appointment.
The commission unanimously approved the consent agenda (items A–D) and a $5,000 match for a cross-country state event after motions from commissioners. It also approved a holiday closure for Friday, January 2, 2026, and adopted a board appointment policy previously reviewed in the work session.
In road-related business, commissioners approved an industrial access funding agreement that includes an additional roughly $800,000 awarded to add turn lanes and expand the scope of work. They also voted to renew the county's asphalt bid on a calendar-year basis beginning January 1 and approved the creation of a Labor II position at grade five.
Solid-waste purchases approved included quotes for a front-load truck (with a reported $100,000 trade-in), a residential truck and a replacement truck bed. The commission approved C1, C2 and C3 following prior work-session discussion.
The commission also approved the Sheriff's FY26 grant (annual grant), and confirmed Elizabeth Adams of the Hillsboro area, described in the meeting as a retired doctor of oriental medicine, to a District 1 seat on the library board.

Miss Rose told commissioners that the final architect inspection for the U courthouse is scheduled for Monday; she reported that, per Kelly Howard with Martin and Kobe, the county could receive a certificate of occupancy in mid-December and may be able to occupy the building in January.
The meeting moved several technical and administrative items forward and tabled a separate solid-waste proposal for a special meeting and work session.
The commission adjourned the business items and moved on to staff reports and other agenda matters.
