Deerfield committee discusses $50,000 cabling bill, FOBS and camera quotes, and selecting PV Squared for solar

Town Administrator Christopher Dunne told the 1888 Building Advisory Committee on April 10 that IT/data cabling work for the municipal 1888 Building had higher-than-expected costs of around $50,000 and the committee decided to proceed with Icon as the electrical subcontractor because Icon owns the needed equipment and can perform the installation.
Dunne summarized security upgrade options under consideration: a FOBS access-control system with a quote of roughly $22,000 and an external camera package quoted at about $10,000. Dunne said those security measures would be recommended by Chief Paciorek.
Dunne also reported that a proposal from PV Squared would be selected and the town would move forward with that solar vendor. Board member Tim Hilchey raised a separate point about meeting-room finishes and requested a more substantial design for the main tables to commemorate Deerfield’s 350th milestone and allow alternate room layouts for larger meetings.
On funding, Dunne said he had spoken with USDA about potentially adjusting the current 54% town / 46% USDA funding split to allow the town to cover additional items such as solar and meeting-room AV. The committee discussed timing: substantial completion is targeted for October or November 2026, with an estimated move-in in January 2027.
The committee did not take a formal vote on security purchases, the solar vendor selection, or any funding-split changes during the meeting; those items were discussed as recommendations and next steps.
