Select Board backs $16,200 warrant article to help AA center cover rent spike

Jay Burke, representing the Clinton Alcoholics Information Center, asked the Board of Selectmen on April 15 to increase annual town funding to help offset a recent rent increase. Burke said the center's rent rose from $250 to $600 per month and described the center's 39-year history of hosting daily AA meetings and providing resources to residents and families dealing with addiction.
Selectman Sean Kerrigan pressed whether the $12,000 figure Burke requested would be sufficient, noting the center's operating budget is $16,200 and that the center receives additional income from donations. After discussion, Selectman Matt Kobus moved that the board support $16,200 as a warrant article to appear on the town warrant; the motion was seconded by Bill Connolly and carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The board recorded letters of support for the center from the Fire Chief and Police Chief as part of the presentation. The vote directs placement of the funding proposal as a warrant article; final action by voters at town meeting or the ballot will determine whether the increase is approved.
