Human Resources Committee approves mayoral appointment to Ambulance Commission

The City of Chicopee Human Resources Committee on March 23, 2026 approved the mayoral appointment of Jorge Colon to the Ambulance Commission, according to the committee minutes from the meeting held at City Hall.
Colon addressed the committee, saying he served with the Springfield Fire Department for 32 years and that he has lived in Chicopee for about 12 to 15 years. Councilor Joseph Pasternak spoke in support of Colon, and Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello thanked him for volunteering.
The minutes record that Councilor Samuel Shumsky moved to close public input, a motion seconded by Chair Susan Goff, and that the committee then voted to approve the appointment. The formal agenda item lists the appointment as effective Feb. 3, 2026, with a term expiring Feb. 1, 2029.
While the committee spent most of the meeting on the appointment, members also approved two sets of committee minutes: the Communications Committee minutes for April 9, 2024, (moved by Councilor Pniak-Costello and seconded by Chair Goff) and the Human Resources Committee minutes for Nov. 20, 2025 (moved by Councilor Shumsky and seconded by Chair Goff). The minutes record each motion as passing.
The Human Resources Committee adjourned at 5:07 p.m.
