Executive director: Catskills, Athens awarded downtown revitalization grants; Greene County hires Workshop for rebranding

At a Greene County meeting, Executive Director James reported that two municipalities will receive state downtown revitalization awards that the county will administer: Catskills received an award of $590,000 (the request had been $600,000) and Athens was approved for $300,000.
"Both funds that this board has authorized us to administer for those communities have been approved," James said. He added the grants are reimbursable; a state contract setting program details is expected next and the programs are anticipated to launch this fall. James described eligible uses including façade improvements, upper-story activation and building mechanical upgrades to improve energy efficiency.
James also said the organization has contracted Workshop as its agency of record following Katharine Ray’s decade of service. Workshop has completed a full rebrand of programs, introducing initiatives such as "Work in Green"—focused on workforce development and remote-work opportunities—and "Live in Green," which will help market housing options. James said visuals for the rebrand should be available for the board at next month’s meeting.
He closed his report with an announcement that the America 250 celebration will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a ceremony and family activities in downtown Catskill. The meeting continued with routine business and adjourned later the same session.
