Technology staff told the committee that the district’s one‑to‑one Chromebook program covers every student from second grade upward and that shortages arise when devices need repair or students forget devices at home.
"Every student from second up has a Chromebook one‑to‑one," Mr. Blanchard said. He explained the current loaner process, warranty handling and the inventory tradeoffs that limit how many extra devices the district can maintain.
The committee discussed several options to reduce classroom disruption: provide a spare device in each classroom (rough estimate of roughly 170–180 extra devices districtwide), maintain central spare carts at school main offices, or hold moderate centralized loaner pools. Mr. Blanchard estimated a replacement device at about $300 and replacement chargers at roughly $30 each and said additional classroom spares would require an increase to the technology replacement budget.
Members also raised practical short‑term requests such as more power strips and a small number of chargers. Technology staff said power strips are already purchased for testing needs and that additional chargers could be procured but are not currently budgeted.
No formal action was taken; the committee closed with staff proposing to review inventory and return costed options for board consideration.
