The Cedar Springs planning commission agreed to hold a joint meeting with the Solen Township County Commission on March 31, 2026, at 7 p.m. to review a consolidated sidewalk map and advance a joint CDBG sidewalk application.
Mr. Earl noted staff had combined two maps to identify existing and missing sidewalks and that the packet will include a comprehensive sidewalk proposal sent previously to Solen Township. Commissioners reviewed red-coded segments indicating missing sidewalks and discussed constraints such as gullies and wet areas where typical sidewalk construction would be difficult.
Staff proposed asking the city engineer for a high-level feasibility analysis of the most constrained segments so the communities can quantify costs and constraints before applying for a Community Development Block Grant. "If we got the analysis of what the project entailed, my plan would be to apply for a CDBG grant," one commissioner said, adding that joint applications between the two communities would score better on grant criteria related to interjurisdictional collaboration and safety improvements.
Commissioners discussed funding realities and acknowledged that a successful application would likely depend on grants and joint contributions; no funding decision was made at the meeting.
