Board approves hires, purchases and policy updates; roll-call votes unanimous

The Dearborn Heights School District #7 Board of Education voted unanimously on a series of superintendent recommendations at its Oct. 15 meeting.
Personnel: The board approved a non-certified appointment (Alexis Wolf, paraprofessional at Poke, effective Oct. 6, 2025) and accepted the resignation of Steve Garary, director of operations (effective Oct. 14, 2025). Trustees thanked Mr. Garary for his service and noted the operations department will be run in the interim by district staff while options for restructuring are reviewed.
Purchases and licenses: Trustees approved Title I purchases for Annapolis High School — 222 Chromebooks, Chrome Education licenses, six Epson projectors and 46 document cameras — totaling $103,634.32 (funded from Title I). The board also approved a $10,900 purchase of a varsity/JV wrestling mat (funded half from athletics, half from the wrestling activity account) and renewed the GoGuardian Beacon Core safety license at an annual cost of $13,156 from the general fund.
Policies and trips: The board approved the second reading and adoption of several revised policies (including Policy 1400 and Policy 1420) and approved a Nov. 6 Young Fives/Kindergarten field trip to Lake Erie Metropark and Marshall's Museum and Nature Center.
