Crestwood honors students and cheer team; high school musical set for April

The Crestwood School District used its Feb. meeting to spotlight student achievements across athletics, career-technical competitions and classroom recognitions.
Student representative Jake Mitchell (junior class president) told the board that winter sports are entering playoffs and noted student extracurricular activity: "Crestwood Varsity Cheer also had a very successful season this year...they finished fifth in the nation in the small varsity traditional routine," he reported.
Coach Alison Button thanked the board and described the season'long commitment of competitive cheer, noting district and regional placements and the team's first-time advancement to UCA Nationals finals in two divisions. "To be named fifth in the nation is an accomplishment that reflects their talents, their dedication, their resilience, and their teamwork," Button said.
The board also recognized technical-education winners at the SkillsUSA regional competition (Ethan Chalua, second place in precision machining; Megan Caesar, third place in technical drafting) and announced the high-school musical "Addams Family" on April 17 and 18. Several sixth graders from Rice and Fairview elementaries were honored as 'Soaring Comets' with staff citations describing leadership and academic strengths.
Superintendent Malazo and board members congratulated the students and asked families to support upcoming events; administrators also noted FBLA's state conference plans and a senior-class field trip scheduled for May.
