Dowagiac Union School District honors Top 10 seniors; student rep gives final report

The Dowagiac Union School Board accepted a final student representative report and celebrated the district’s Top 10 graduating seniors for the Class of 2026.
The student representative, identified at the meeting as Maya Vasquez, delivered what she said was her last student report of the year, noting school exhibitions, club drives and spring senior‑night schedules, and reminding the board of upcoming exams and graduation events. “We are thrilled that over 80% will be displaying their work April 16th to May 3rd,” she said while listing student exhibitions and senior events.
Principal Kelly Milan introduced each of the Top 10 seniors and summarized academic and extracurricular highlights for the group, which includes valedictorian Bri Banky (4.0) and salutatorian Johanna McDonald. Milan said the group’s GPAs range from a perfect 4.0 to 3.812 and announced a Top‑10 dinner scheduled for Sunday, April 26, at 5 p.m. at Venue 132.
Individual students briefly noted their accomplishments and post‑graduation plans: Banky plans to attend Grand Valley State University; McDonald plans to study molecular biology and play soccer; other seniors named postsecondary plans that include military service, community college, and regional universities.
The board thanked the student representative and the graduating seniors. The meeting recessed for a short photo break after the presentations.
The board is slated to celebrate the Top 10 at the district dinner on April 26, and graduation rehearsal and ceremony dates were reiterated during the meeting.
