Board unanimously adopts agenda, personnel items and multiple NEOLA policy updates

The Dearborn Heights School District #7 Board of Education on Dec. 17 approved the meeting agenda, accepted personnel changes and adopted a package of NEOLA policy updates in a series of roll-call votes.
The board opened by adopting the Dec. 17 agenda after a motion by Trustee Wall and support from Trustee Wless. Trustees present voted in favor; Trustee Beltski had informed the board she would not attend.
On personnel matters the board accepted non‑certified appointments including Michelle Janick, Stephanie Kelly, Lindsey Smith and Brianna Vasquez, and accepted non‑certified resignations including Katherine Lacatoss and Amamira Presley. Each personnel item was moved and approved by roll call.
The board also completed second readings and adopted multiple NEOLA policy updates across several packets. Items approved from the Volume 40 NEOLA package included Policy 2210 (curriculum development and approved courses); Policy 2266 (nondiscrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities); Policy 2412 (homebound instruction); Policy 4162 (controlled substances and alcohol for CMV drivers); Policy 5120 (assignment within district); Policy 5460 (graduation requirements); Policy 5517.01 (bullying and other aggressive behavior); Policy 7540.02 (digital content and accessibility); and Policy 8305 (information security). Additional nondiscrimination and employment‑related NEOLA replacements and rescind/resend items were approved in a separate packet, and further 2000‑series policy updates (athletics, summer school, community education, copyright, parent and family participation in Title I) were approved as presented.
A field trip request was approved for Bedford young fives and kindergarten students to visit the Creature Conservancy on Jan. 22, 2026. All votes recorded at the meeting were carried by trustees present.
The meeting concluded with brief recognitions and adjournment at 7:43 p.m.
