Dearborn Heights School District #7 board elects Tanya Sterlin president; fills officer posts

Board members moved to close nominations and proceed to a vote. By roll call the presidency passed with five trustees voting yes and two voting no. Immediately after the outcome was announced the meeting continued with the next items on the agenda.
The board also elected Leslie Windless as vice president, Mary Beth Belttowski as secretary and Derek Wall as treasurer in successive roll-call votes. In each case trustees moved, seconded and then voted; the motions carried according to the official roll calls recorded at the meeting.
Why it matters: Officer elections set who will run meetings and hold signature authority and other official roles for the coming year. The newly elected president and officers will preside over upcoming agenda items, including budget and superintendent-evaluation work scheduled for the year.
The board proceeded immediately to other organizational items after the officer elections, including designating fiscal depositories and approving routine administrative appointments.
