Cedar Springs council clears city hall move, OKs municipal surplus sale and schedules open house

The Cedar Springs City Council on March 12 authorized temporary closures of city hall to facilitate the municipal move from 66 South Main Street to a new facility at 130 West Moskegan Street and approved a public sale of municipal surplus items after the relocation.
City Manager Darla Falcon explained the move logistics and gave tentative closure dates of April 20–24 for heavy moving operations, noting the city will reopen earlier if servers and critical systems are restored. Falcon said staff will work with Department of Public Works and law enforcement for logistics and security during the transition.
Council also approved holding a public sale of municipal surplus after the move to dispose of furniture and other items no longer needed at the new facility; council discussion included preserving an antique roll‑top desk for display in the new lobby if space permits.
Falcon showed photographs and described features of the new building, including a kitchen and break room, a conference room, new entry configurations, two large TVs planned for the council room and epoxy flooring in DPW areas. She told the council that the April meeting will be the last at the current building and that the May council meeting will be held in the new city hall with an open house from 4:00–7:00 p.m.
What’s next: staff will finalize move dates and communicate closures and the surplus sale schedule to the public; a budget meeting remains scheduled for the coming week.
