The Parks & Recreation Board received updates on multiple maintenance and community projects, including an upcoming Arbor Day planting, a restroom opening and community-garden changes.
Nick Hansen told the board the new Van Anda restroom and associated sidewalk and electrical hookups are expected to be ready for spring use. He said new soccer goals have arrived for Van Anda and staff will relocate some goals from other parks once irrigation is active.
Hansen said six plots remain available in the community gardens and that next year staff plan to redesign plots into two sizes, which will require removing four plots to square off the garden layout. He reported crews are installing a merry-go-round at Barnard Park after removing an old metal unit and that a greenhouse was dismantled and moved beside the Quonset at Christensen Field.
On urban forestry, Hansen announced the Fremont Tree Canopy Program is accepting applications through May and confirmed Arbor Day plantings on April 24 at Barnard Park; he said one to four trees are expected to be planted and that APlus Tree Service is looking to donate trees.
Minutes record these operational updates and planned activities but do not provide dollar amounts, contractors’ names beyond APlus Tree Service, or firm completion dates beyond the seasonal estimates.
