Staff presented an update on a planned parallel taxiway reconstruction that would expand the project's scope to include light replacement and relocation, a taxiway extension with added lighting, and removal of old pavement.
Staff member Dan Gillis told the Airport Advisory Committee that both the state and the Federal Aviation Administration have approved the increased scope of work. The full project cost is around $5 million, and the city’s cost share is estimated at approximately $192,000; project timing depends on congressional appropriations and the City’s available budget for its share.
Gillis also warned the committee that work of this scale will require temporary closures and that the existing airport beacon is not in the current project scope for repair or replacement. He said outside vendors and City staff have completed repairs that were possible to date, but ongoing maintenance on the beacon poses safety concerns because of the height involved and current vendors have declined the work for safety and access reasons.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the project during the meeting. Next steps include continued coordination with state and federal partners, further budget planning for the city's cost share, and continued discussion of beacon repair or replacement as funds allow.
