Engineer reports culvert replacement complete; supervisors seek job description for proposed Bridge Foreman

Engineer Jared Johnson updated the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors on secondary-roads activity and bridge construction on June 22. Johnson said crews replaced a deteriorated 24-inch CMP culvert with a new 24-inch ADS culvert under Work Order 1463 on P38 between 310th Street and J55; the culvert outlet was armored with revetment and the work is complete.
Johnson reported crews have been mowing vegetation along paved roadsides and Farm-to-Market gravel roads, operating the total patcher to repair potholes, repairing downed and damaged signs, hauling and stockpiling chip rock for an upcoming sealcoat project, replacing granular surfacing where roads were overtopped, and clearing debris at bridge Lotts Creek 16 and at the ditch at P14 and Stateline Road.
On bridge construction at Middle Fork 10, Johnson said crews removed drift and debris, stripped formwork at abutments, installed reinforcing steel and poured the west abutment, set caps at permanent piers and false piers at end spans, began setting stringers and cambering east-end span stringers, and set wedge blocks. He said a temporary stream crossing was partly removed because of forecasted heavy rain; crews plan to rebuild that crossing, finish setting west-end span stringers, camber and set decking panels, and haul and assemble the hammer at the site.
Johnson also proposed promoting an internal employee to a newly created Bridge Foreman position to oversee bridge projects and related operations. The board expressed support for the concept but requested additional information before taking action: a draft job description, clarification about overtime rules for the position, and a clearer statement of duties outside bridge projects. Auditor Amanda Waske will work with Johnson to supply the requested materials for consideration at a future meeting.
A Treasurer item involving Debra Cannon was tabled until the board’s next meeting. No formal vote was taken on the Bridge Foreman proposal at the June 22 meeting.
