The Lago Vista Building Standards Commission voted unanimously on May 6 to recommend that the City Council adopt the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code.
The commission moved to approve ordinance No. 2605701 on the recommendation presented by staff. The City Council liaison moved the ordinance and a commission member seconded; the chair called for hands and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff and the building official said the 2024 property maintenance code is a cleaner version that resolves prior inconsistencies and is easier to enforce and understand. "They've cleaned up a lot of stuff in it from the previous versions," the building official stated, urging adoption of the more up‑to‑date model for clearer standards.
Commissioners heard that adopting a modern property maintenance code would centralize administrative language and reduce confusion among builders and inspectors. The commission’s vote will be included in the council packet for consideration at the upcoming council meeting.
The commission also discussed related Chapter 3 amendments, including pool and building code references and associated fees; staff provided comparison memos for commissioners to review before the council hearing.
The commission adjourned after completing the agenda items.
