Auburndale canvassing board rejects several ballots, accepts replicated ballots and unofficial Seat #3 totals

The City of Auburndale Canvassing Board met Nov. 4, 2025, at the Supervisor of Elections' Elections Operations Center in Winter Haven to review returned and replicated ballots from the Nov. 4, 2025, municipal election and to accept unofficial vote totals. Mayor Dorothea Taylor Bogert was appointed chair for the session.
City Clerk Brandon Henry presented the Vote-by-Mail report, saying 1,148 ballots had been requested, 686 had been returned to date, and 674 had been accepted by the clerk. The board voted unanimously to accept the report and to open and process the accepted vote-by-mail ballots using the Mail Ballot Criteria Sheet the clerk reviewed for the board.
During the board's review of returned ballots, members rejected multiple ballots after finding signatures that did not match voter records and accepted other ballots where envelopes and signatures matched after staff review. One contested rejection was approved with a 4–1 vote, with Commissioner Keith Cowie recorded as the lone dissent on that item. The board also reviewed replicated ballots—used when original ballots were blank, damaged, or required special handling for Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations or military/overseas voters—and accepted the replicated ballots presented by Supervisor of Elections staff.
City Clerk Henry presented precinct printouts showing 693 ballots counted (including two blank ballots). The initial unofficial totals for Seat #3 showed Sean Levy with 440 votes and Maulissa Braverman with 251 votes. After tabulating all ballots, the board accepted the final unofficial results report on a unanimous vote and distributed the report to candidates and members of the public present.
The meeting recessed several times for ballot processing and reconvened before completing tabulation. The Canvassing Board adjourned at 8:41 p.m. The minutes conclude with the clerk's certification that the minutes are true and correct.
