OCRCL reported that nine youth attended a recent initiative in which participants selected topics, created posters proposing solutions, and identified channels for change. Courtney McLaughlin, community engagement and outreach coordinator, was assigned to have the posters framed for display at the Pauli Murray Awards.
Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the youth posters with a winner to be notified on or around April 29, 2026; the winner will be congratulated at the Pauli Murray Awards on May 17, 2026.
At the March 24 meeting the commission recorded a separate formal motion concerning Pauli Murray Awards student-entrant voting procedures. The minutes list Chair Rhian Carreker-Ford as the mover and Shane Lukas as the seconder; the tally was recorded as 3–3–0 and the motion failed. The minutes do not record which members voted for or against the motion or the precise procedural changes proposed. As a result, the voting procedure change remains unresolved and may be brought back for further discussion or a future vote.
The minutes assign follow-up tasks: commissioners will vote on posters at an upcoming meeting, and staff will prepare logistics for the awards ceremony. No vote to select the poster winner was recorded at the March 24 meeting.
