Auburndale approves ordinance amending FY2024–25 budget, increases General Fund by $6.47 million

The City of Auburndale Commission on Dec. 1, 2025, adopted Ordinance No. 1840 on second and final reading to amend the Fiscal Year 2024–2025 annual budget to reflect unanticipated revenues and expenditures. Finance Director Christopher Reeder presented the amendment, saying it is required "in accordance with Florida Statutes, adopted auditing practices, and on the recommendation of the City's Auditor" to appropriate for revenue and expenditures that may exceed previously budgeted amounts.

Reeder noted that "the level of budgetary control for the City's Annual Budget is at the Fund Level," and presented the summary of fund changes: the General Fund increases by $6,473,000 to an amended total of $51,436,570; the General Fund Impact Fee decreases by $594,000 to $759,288; the Community Redevelopment Agency fund decreases by $1,191,733 to $2,344,513; the Water & Sewer Fund decreases by $10,458,000 to $23,990,000; and the Water & Sewer Impact Fee decreases by $3,532,000 to $3,322,906. The total budget was presented as $91,156,010 with a net change of -$9,302,733, producing an amended total of $81,853,277.

City Attorney Frederick J. Murphy Jr. read Ordinance No. 1840 by title. There were no citizen comments. Commissioner Crystal Tijerina moved to approve Ordinance No. 1840; Commissioner Sean Levy seconded the motion. The ordinance passed on second and final reading with a unanimous vote (Mayor Alex Cam, Vice Mayor Jordan Helms, and Commissioners Travis Avery, Sean Levy and Crystal Tijerina voting yes).

The amendment adjusts appropriation at the fund level to align recorded revenues and expenditures with recent developments and auditor recommendations; the minutes note the ordinance was prepared by the Finance Director and reviewed by the City Manager and City Attorney.
