The Hobart Board of Public Works and Safety authorized staff on June 17 to solicit quotes for a temporary signal at 8th and Lincoln to support traffic during an expected Wisconsin Street bridge closure, City Engineer Alex Metz said.
Metz said the bridge closure is expected to last about four months and that a temporary signal was designed to ease traffic flow, particularly when school resumes. He estimated installation costs at about $148,000 and said equipment would be rented from INDOT and must be removed after the detour ends. The Board approved the request to obtain quotes by motion (Mr. Huddlestun moved; Mrs. Longer seconded; vote 3‑0).
Separately, the Board approved a contract with First Group Engineering to prepare CCMG and annual paving bid documents and authorized the solicitation of bids for roughly 15 miles of paving. Metz said the additional engineering oversight will help ensure markings and cleanup are completed properly; both motions passed unanimously.
