Auburndale extends redevelopment agency to 2052, approves updated CRA plan

The Auburndale City Commission on Nov. 3 unanimously approved an updated Community Redevelopment Plan and two resolutions that extend the Auburndale Community Redevelopment Agency's operational timeframe to 2052.
Interim City Manager Amy Palmer told the commission the plan revises the 1992 goals, objectives and action items for the roughly 1,074‑acre CRA district and adds an appendix documenting workshop results and statutory compliance with Chapter 163, Part III of the Florida Statutes. The extension aligns the district's timeframe with the 60‑year limit noted in state statute; the agency previously was set to expire in 2035.
The Planning Commission and the CRA Board both recommended approval before the commission's vote. City Attorney Frederick J. Murphy Jr. read Resolution No. 2025‑09 (approving the plan update) and Resolution No. 2025‑10 (authorizing continuance of the CRA). Both resolutions were moved, seconded and passed with unanimous votes.
During public comment, resident Dennis Young asked whether a published, prioritized list of ongoing and future CRA projects is available. Palmer said that list is included in the city's budget and that she could provide it by email.
Mayor Dorothea Taylor Bogert described the continuance as important to small cities, noting ongoing state legislative proposals that seek to eliminate community redevelopment agencies. "The legislature is trying to eliminate community redevelopment agencies every single year, and they are a huge benefit not only to Auburndale but to many small towns and cities throughout the state," she said.
The commission's action approves the updated plan and extends the CRA's timeframe; staff will publish materials required by statute and continue implementation of plan priorities.
