Commission approves private fleet EV charging station on La Cienega

The Inglewood Planning Commission unanimously approved a special‑use permit for a private electric vehicle charging station for commercial fleets at 8515 South La Cienega Boulevard (SUP26‑00011).

Assistant planner Faith Smith told commissioners the proposal would demolish an existing one‑story commercial building and install 24 EV charging dispensers serving light‑duty fleet vehicles, a prefabricated 790‑square‑foot building for employee facilities, a security booth and 24‑hour on‑site security. "The proposed project consists of a private electric vehicle charging service station serving only light‑duty vehicles operated by a commercial fleet," Smith said, adding that the facility would not be open to the general public.

Applicant representative Mandy Ohedo said the site will be contracted to a single commercial fleet operator and that the location supports the city’s mobility and environmental goals. Commissioners asked about ingress and egress and whether the site would accommodate autonomous fleet vehicles; the applicant said the design could accommodate Waymo‑type or other fleet operators and that the contract will be with one tenant.

The commission moved to affirm the categorical exemption and approve SUP26‑00011; the motion passed unanimously by roll call. Staff noted that the project will be routed to public works and the traffic division during site plan review for any additional traffic controls or recommendations and reminded the public of the 20‑day appeal window under the IMC.

Next steps include site plan review and any required plan check comments from public works and building safety.
