Town council declines resident's pump plan, reviews zoning violations and sheriff survey

Mayor Brenda Bell-Guercio presided over the Indian Springs Village Town Council meeting on May 6, where the council discussed code-enforcement reports and a resident's request to install a pump to draw water from Bishop Creek for use in an active fire at a proposed new house.

Fire Chief Sipe described the request and told the council the pump "would only be used in an active fire at the residence." After discussion, the council concluded allowing a private pump in Bishop Creek "would not be in the best interest of the community" and asked staff to investigate other options for fire protection at the site.

Mayor Bell-Guercio read a report from Wayne Jones, PAZ chairman, identifying several properties in violation of the town's Zoning Ordinance for permitting issues. The report, read aloud at the meeting, alerted council members to ongoing enforcement matters and potential follow-up by town staff.

Jake Guercio reported that Sheriff Samaniego is soliciting public input for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office five-year strategic plan and encouraged residents to take the brief survey via the sheriff's website or the department's Facebook link.

Councilmember Herb Robins also noted a broken street sign bracket that has been ordered; the adjacent property owner offered to pay for the replacement.

The council did not take a formal vote on code-enforcement follow-up or on the pump request; staff were directed to investigate alternatives for addressing fire protection at the property.

The council adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
