The Murfreesboro Planning Commission handled several routine but formal items on July 1, approving minutes, electing officers, forwarding two mandatory referrals on drainage‑easement abandonments to City Council, and adjusting the meeting calendar.
At the start of the meeting commissioners approved the June 17 minutes and elected Ken Halliburton as chair (by nomination) and Ava Water as vice chair for 2026–2027.
Two mandatory referrals concerning drainage easements were recommended to City Council. For the Riverview Cove properties along Jean Dixon Drive (applicants Melissa Casserly and Ethan Arnold), staff recommended and the commission approved forwarding the abandonment request subject to conditions requiring construction of new stormwater facilities prior to abandonment, City Engineer review and approval of plans, preparation and recording of appropriate legal instruments, and a permit or license agreement approved by the City Attorney. For the Savannah Ridge request (applicants Laura Brown and Justin Bryant), staff said a topographic survey showed the recorded easement contains no built drainage facilities and the city engineer did not object; the commission recommended forwarding the request with standard legal and recording conditions.
Finally, the commission agreed to move the October meeting from Oct. 14 to Sept. 30 to keep hearings on schedule before year end, and the meeting was adjourned.
