A committee member and Alyssa presented draft park-sign designs from Eclipse Creative and asked the Parks & Recreation Committee for feedback on preferred shapes, color and materials. Committee members favored a double‑post design with a green background and white lettering and asked staff to pursue weather‑resistant, reflective materials for nighttime legibility; the group also discussed carrying brick elements into entry signs for visual consistency at major City of Sunbury entry points.
Staff said the design team originated from a request for qualifications (RFQ) issued last year and that the next step is to obtain manufacturing and installation pricing. Committee members asked staff to discuss long‑term maintenance, the durability of any removable amenity panels and whether small replaceable panels could call out seasonal or rotating park amenities (for example, disc golf or recent championship teams) without compromising wind resistance.
On park maintenance and natural areas, staff reported that J.R. Smith construction is active and demolition is about 90% complete, with substantial completion hoped for by the end of October. For Old Orchard Park, staff previewed a management plan to address heavy invasive‑species growth along the Prairie Run Creek corridor; Aaron will return with a detailed presentation on August 1 and staff plan to coordinate with Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District for environmental guidance.
Jake presented a proposed distance/mileage sign for Reservoir Park (walking loops of approximately 0.45 and 0.58 miles) and asked whether the mileage numbers should be made more prominent; he said this sign could be fabricated in‑house or procured from the sign company. Staff also introduced a new trails and sidewalks map prepared by GIS intern Vivian showing current multi‑use paths, sidewalks and imminent future paths that are part of approved plans; committee members asked to review the map and provide feedback.
Additional operational notes from the packet: Sunbury Memorial Park recorded eight burials between May and June; the Town Square second‑Saturday market (June 13) and Sunbury Pride (June 27) were reported as successful. Staff will return with sign pricing, a refined procurement recommendation, and a detailed Old Orchard Park management plan.
