SAU 90 rep warns state bills may limit retainage and cap school budgets; Hampton Academy principal resigns

Molly St. Jeanne, the SAU 90 representative to the Master Plan Implementation Committee, briefed members on two pieces of state legislation and a staffing change at Hampton Academy during the June 24 meeting.
St. Jeanne said one bill headed to the Governor would remove the ability for districts to maintain a retainage and another would institute a tax cap on school budgets. She told the committee the School Board chose to use the district's current retainage to repair school roofs that were "in the red" and likely to fail; if the district retains the ability to keep the retainage it will replenish it over time.
Separately, St. Jeanne noted a sudden resignation by the principal at Hampton Academy. The administration posted the vacancy for eight days and selected a candidate they described as "excellent," saying they were very pleased with the outcome.
