HBAC presses for pedestrian lighting on new Hampton bridge; Route 1A project funding and easements remain pending

Alex Loiseau, the Hampton Beach Area Commission (HBAC) representative on the Master Plan Implementation Committee, reported an update from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation on local transportation projects at the June 24 meeting.
Loiseau said the new bridge is expected to open to one-way traffic in the fall, after which crews will deconstruct the old bridge until the following fall with full cleanup by spring 2028. HBAC is advocating for pedestrian lighting on the new bridge; Loiseau said the State is willing to install the infrastructure for lighting but will not maintain it without a management agreement from the Town.
On Route 1A, Loiseau reported Phase I is funded but additional funding for later phases is pending. If further grants are awarded, the most time-consuming aspect will be coordinating easements with property owners. HBAC is also coordinating on Casino redevelopment, and Loiseau said the commission is following grant application outcomes expected this month.
The minutes record no formal vote on the bridge or lighting; HBAC is asking the Town to consider a management agreement if pedestrian lighting is to be installed and maintained.
