Dr. Stewart told the board the district, like many others, continues to face challenges in recruiting and retaining qualified bus drivers and described Friend as an experienced driver who knows the routes, students and expectations well. The superintendent said Friend has also supported the district “in a variety of ways beyond her primary role,” and that her experience and reliability are important as the board evaluates options to meet transportation needs.
There were no speakers from the public during the hearing. The hearing was closed with the understanding that the board will revisit the reemployment request at the May meeting and then take formal action.
