The Cicero Planning Board approved a resolution on July 1 authorizing a building expansion at Schneider Packaging & Equipment, 5370 Guy Young Road, after the applicant agreed to additional screening, a privacy fence and a lighting plan intended to reduce impacts on adjacent neighbors.
Nathan Kellinger of Freeman Associates said the applicant met with adjacent neighbors after the prior hearing, added 30 evergreen trees along the property and is proposing a cedar board-on-board six-foot privacy fence running the length of the property. Kellinger said Schneider elected to limit exterior lighting to one side of the building and to use wall-pack fixtures to minimize off-site illumination.
Architect Jeff Taw said the addition is a straightforward match to the existing pre-engineered metal facility; plans include a two-foot recess at the join between new and existing buildings to break up the elevation. Board members encouraged additional design articulation where practical but recognized structural constraints of the existing facility.
The applicant clarified grading and paving work: excess topsoil would be removed unless reused and the existing subbase under the parking area would remain when new asphalt is placed. The board voted to adopt the elevations presented and to approve the project under standard conditions.
The board’s approval incorporates the applicant’s elevations and requires final permit coordination with planning staff.
