Planning staff updated the Highland City Planning Commission on several non-action items and upcoming deadlines, including continuing work on detached accessory dwelling unit (DADU) rules, recent signage approvals, code-consistency efforts and local budget hearings.
Rob told commissioners that the detached ADU proposal remains pending and a work session is likely at the commission's second July meeting to review details. The council has already approved changes to a Highland Main sign design that incorporate a stone base consistent with the commission's recommendation, and the updated business-use process was also approved.
Rob said the council clarified planning-commission removal-from-office standards to specify that missing three meetings in a row or failing required training (after notice) could lead to council action to remove a member. The commission discussed consolidating three different site-triangle standards and reviewing setbacks and building-height rules across zones as items for future code review.
Rob also announced that the council approved an interim budget that includes a proposed library tax increase; staff scheduled informational meetings for July 27 and Aug. 6 and a final hearing on Aug. 11, all beginning at 7 p.m. Audrey volunteered to reach out to the family of Klaus, a recently deceased commission member, and commissioners agreed to prepare a gesture of condolence.
Commissioners set future code-review topics and agreed to stream material back to staff for preparation ahead of the next work session.
