Chowan County board approves multiple budget amendments, grants and capital items including $105,000 HSGP grant for EMS UTV

The Chowan County Board of Commissioners approved a bundle of budget amendments and grant allocations on Jan. 6, covering a variety of county departments and capital projects.
Finance Officer Cathy Smith presented amendments that included: insurance proceeds of $2,866.90 for vehicle maintenance in the Sheriff's Office; a Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) award of $105,000 to purchase a Utility Terrain Vehicle and transport trailer for EMS; a capital grant and carry-forward for Motorola radio work in the E-911 fund totaling $40,224.07; and a transfer from capital reserve to cover an additional $38,557 in courthouse renovation furnishings. The board also approved several smaller discretionary income appropriations across departments. Commissioner Ellis Lawrence moved to approve the amendments and the motion passed unanimously (7-0).
The HSGP award was noted as a previously approved application; county staff said the funds will be used for EMS equipment purchases. The board's approval of the courthouse furnishings change order directs staff to process the change order from the architect and complete associated funding transfers. Documentation for the grants and amendments appear in the meeting packet and were entered into the finance record.
