County awards $224,631 contract to repair masonry arch on Lebanon Valley Rail Trail

County engineer Nate McCau presented bids for masonry repair of a 25-foot-wide, 25-foot-tall barrel-shaped stone arch on the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail near Jonestown after a piece of the arch fell out. Bids were opened June 17; the county received three bids. The lowest base bid to repair only the hole was $61,800; the lowest bid to repair and repoint the entire arch was $224,631.
McCau said the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail organization preferred using ARPA funds to address the entire arch and preserve the structure for decades. The board moved to award the contract to Delaware Environmental Construction Services and approved the award by voice vote. McCau said the county expects to issue a notice to proceed on July 20 with an estimated two-month construction schedule.
