Chowan County, Town of Edenton to hold joint Feb. 24 meeting and public hearing on Confederate monument relocation

Board Clerk Susanne Stallings announced that the Chowan County Board of Commissioners and the Edenton Town Council will hold a joint meeting on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. at the COA Culinary Arts Building to consider a proposed Memorandum of Understanding and Agreement concerning the relocation of the Confederate monument from South Broad Street to county-owned property behind the Chowan County Courthouse.
Stallings said the joint meeting will include a public hearing to receive comments and that the Town’s proposed Memorandum of Understanding & Agreement will be made available for public inspection at the offices of the County Manager and Town Manager prior to the meeting.
The announcement gives residents a chance to review the proposed agreement and to testify at the joint public hearing; no board action on the relocation was taken at the Feb. 17 meeting.
