According to the minutes, paperwork has been submitted to the town to close George Washington Turnpike for the July 9 event; the town will provide a podium. Committee members were asked to arrive at noon. The schedule sets a fife-and-drum performance to begin at 5:30 p.m. as the signal to start the parade, horses to ride in at 5:55 p.m., the reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by the band playing "Yankee Doodle," church bells and a concluding celebration at The Elton Tavern with cake, cookies and lemonade.
The committee recorded that BHS paid for the John Chester Fife and Drum; the Town of Burlington will reimburse that expense. The minutes did not specify what "BHS" stands for.
On a procedural motion recorded in the minutes, Donna Mullen moved to approve the June 3, 2026 minutes; Don Brunelle seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The committee will meet next on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026 at 7 p.m.
